Left - right – nothing is missed with BX Shield boundary detector

31 March 2021
OPTEX’s two-side curtain detector BX Shield features digital analytics and configuration options to make it highly versatile and with proven performance in all weather conditions.

The award-winning BX Shield sensor (BXS) is true to its motto ‘left-right nothing missed’ and leads the market when it comes to curtain detection.

The aim of any good security system is protecting people and keeping valuables safe and no doubt there is a better chance of protection if the system can alert before the intrusion occurs. External curtain detectors create a protective shield around the premises and can detect intruders at that point, whether they are trying to break-in through a back door or someone looking through a window.

BXS has a proven track record with successful deployment across thousands of applications in Europe, both for residential and commercial premises. It is a versatile sensor which allows to protect windows and doors in balconies, and with a detection range up to 24m you can protect a whole façade with just one sensor. When triggered, the BXS sends a signal to the alarm panel enabling various actions: trigger cameras, activate a siren, or alert the central monitoring station.

With 40 years’ experience developing outdoor sensors, OPTEX has gathered unique algorithms to bring intelligence to the sensors. Our patented SMDA (Super Multidimensional Analysis) logic provides the detector with sensing analytics to recognise what has been detected. By analysing the passive infrared signals and environmental information, the sensor can differentiate between genuine intrusions and a number of nuisance alarms such as changes in weather conditions and swaying vegetation. A further benefit of SMDA logic it’s the sensor doesn’t require manual adjustments to compensate for seasonal changes. BXS also has a size analysis logic, which means small animals can be ignored.

Additional sunlight protection

All BXS models feature double-conductive shielding to provide extra protection against strong sunlight and radio frequency wave disturbance (RFI). In addition, the sensor’s structure is very stable and durable to changes of temperature and highly UV resistant.

The BXS sensor includes four pyro-elements, two on each side (left-right) making it effectively like two sensors built into one. The detection range can be set completely independently for each side, for instance it can be set to 3.5m detection on the left side and 12m on the right side. Sensitivity can also be customised by side allowing to adjust it to difference of sunlight level. The sensor also has independent alarm outputs left-right, which is very helpful for video surveillance.

As passive infrared detection relies on the difference of temperature between the moving object and the ambient temperature, in hot countries it’s important that the small difference is also detected. For those regional locations, the sensitivity can be set to extremely high, maximizing the detection performance and avoiding missed alarms.

Top-class performing anti-masking

BXS is equipped with active IR anti-masking which can detect when the lens surface has been covered, blocked or painted, even when the sensor has been tampered with while disarmed, it will signal it when it is armed again.

Wireless integration

Battery operated BXS models (BXS-R, BXS-RAM) can be integrated with all universal wireless transmitters and panels. It also supports two-way wireless communication protocol to allow dynamic communication with the alarm panel when integrated.

With a sleek modern look, the BX Shield sensor can discretely fit in all kind of facades. It is available in two standard colours: black body combined with white front face plate, or white body combined with white front face plate. Optional black and silver plates are available.
